Happy Cinco de Mayo from Maples at the Sonatas, where we observe the holiday with Mexican appetizers and margaritas in the clubhouse. And once again, thanks to our bear costumer extraordinaire, Cathie, for setting the tone with our mascot, Healy. By the way, nice mustachio, Healy! Note to new readers: to learn more about Healy, his many costumes, and his selection as our mascot, see this post.
Here it is, one of the biggest weekends of the year. It’s Final Four time. So it was no surprise to hear some rivalry talk at our community coffee this morning. We had a fan of Michigan State wearing green. We had Wisconsin supporters in the group too, along with Big 10 fans happy that their conference had two teams in the finals. But only Sylvia and I broke out our team shirts this morning. […]
It’s that kind of morning here at Maples at the Sonatas in balmy Woodstock, Illinois. But, all things considered, I have little to complain about. Much of the country is having a more brutal February than we are. And in Illinois, we know how to deal with this weather. Yes, it’s a double Cuddl Duds® day. And, since my desk is right up against an exterior wall, I have a space heater aimed at my […]
I splurged on two luxurious throw pillows. I have two cats. It is kitty nap time. Cat lovers, you know what’s coming next… Merry Christmas to Shadow and Angie!
Wishing you a very happy Halloween — from our mascot, Healy… … and the winners of our costume contest.
It’s Thursday, so, as Facebook users know, it’s time for a stroll down memory lane. Let’s throw it back to 2007, which is as far back as I can go here at Maples at the Sonatas. We begin with the sign marking the site of Building 24. Our clubhouse was built during the summer of 2007 too, though the pool would come later. Here’s the foundation. And just two months later, look how quickly it […]
My neighbor Cathie has us spoiled. Every holiday or major social event brings with it a change of costume for our mascot bear in the clubhouse. And each new costume, it seems, is more detailed than the last. Here is her latest masterpiece, celebrating Independence Day 2014. Check out these closeups of some of the details. I can’t end this post without mentioning that Cathie’s patriotism runs deep. Retired now, she devoted […]
You know summer has arrived when we celebrate Flower Power here at Maples at the Sonatas. On Saturday, our homeowners will enjoy a potluck brunch and receive free flats of annuals to plant around our homes. Our Maples Bear and Baby Bear just can’t wait! They are all set to get planting and pollinating. Thank you, again, to Wilcox Communities for putting the flowers into Flower Power. And to Cathie for one of her best […]
With Easter less than two weeks away, our mascot bear is dressed for the holiday. The only problem is, has he lost his sense of identity? Is he still a bear, or has he morphed into a hare? Or is he stuck somewhere in between? A neighbor commented that the bear is showing quite a bit of hair these days. Or, in other words, the hare is a bit bare. One thing is for certain. […]
