What Room Does Fear Have?

Mostly Musings

You have a way with words.

Occasionally, someone will tell me this. And, of course, I love hearing it. But today it just doesn’t ring true. I can’t find my words.

What could I possibly say about the nightmare that is Orlando this weekend?

I can’t explain what is happening to our country. I don’t have the words to soften our sorrow and fear over it. I wish we could turn to our political leaders for direction, but I have lost faith in them, for the most part.

However, this I do know. If there is any hope for our future, it must lie in our young people. Today, when I most needed something to restore my spirits, I came across a video I had meant to post on this blog but never did.

It is a performance by the Mahomet-Seymore High School competitive dance team. The 14 girls from this small high school in central Illinois won a state championship dancing to What Are You Afraid Of?, a spoken word performance by Jon Jorgenson.

If you have three minutes to spare, please watch it. You’ll be in good company. The video has nearly 8 million views on U-Tube.
