Happy Father’s Day!
I hope you are celebrating with your dad today. But if you can’t, I hope you are enjoying a flood of happy memories of him, as I am. Here are two old photos of Dad, whom we lost in 1996. Both were taken on the farm where I grew up near Davenport, Iowa.
Dad was proud of my brother and me, and also proud of his great corn crop that year.
Yes, this was me in my 4-H uniform. In a lucky coincidence, we both were wearing bow ties of a sort.
I wrote a post about Dad on Veteran’s Day 2014. I’d like to share this excerpt again:
Dad lived his last seven years in Woodstock, where he and Mom were my neighbors. I wish he had lived to see my Abbey and Maples at the Sonatas. He would have liked helping me move and doing projects around the house. And he would have always wanted to walk down the street to the place where you can still see a farm in the distance.
